Anago Cleaning Systems is looking to enter the Birmingham market soon.The Florida-based commercial and janitorial cleaning service says Birmingham’s greater area population is well suited for its business model.

“We’ve been reading about what a big up-and-coming area it is,” said Judy Walker, vice president of marketing for Anago. “The population base is just over one million. That’s perfect for a master franchise.”

Walker says development rights are sold to a master owner for $49,000. That owner will then sell 10 to 12 unit franchises in the territory throughout the year.

The master owner is not in the cleaning business but rather in charge of selling unit franchises and securing cleaning contracts for those businesses.

“We are looking for someone who is a mid to senior level executive who has a strong sales and marketing background,” she said.

Walker says she expects Birmingham to produce 10 to 12 unit franchises over the next few years, which she said could result in around 100 jobs for the area.

“When you drive down the street and see office buildings, they all need to be cleaned,” Walker said. “There is a definite need for it.”

Named the tenth fastest growing franchise in 2013 by Entrepreneur Magazine, Anago was founded by David Povlitz in 1989.
