MAKING 2018 THE YEAR OF EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT IN THE WORKPLACE

Wednesday, January 17th, 2018

The concept of employee engagement isn’t new, but with the new year upon us, it is imperative companies begin to understand the value of developing and executing a strong employee engagement plan. According to research, 70% of all U.S. workers are disengaged and that translates into millions of dollars of lost revenue due to lack of productivity in the workplace. Now is the time for companies to stop treating employee engagement as a stand-alone project and more of a consistent strategy throughout the entire year.

In November, our company was invited to take part in a “Best Places to Work” survey that covered the entire South Florida region. Anago scored higher than average and found that close to 100% of staff members are highly engaged professionals and that the senior leaders valued “people” as their most important resource to the company. This indicator recognizes that highly engaged employees go above and beyond in their work, advocate for their organization and intend to stay long-term.

Cha Tekeli, a successful Executive Coach leading brands through company strength-oriented strategies talked about employee engagement in a recent article with Forbes.

“Of the many skills today’s business leaders must possess, perhaps the most vital is the ability to “read the signs” – to adapt to changes, the future threats that may affect their business.”

2018 should be the year where companies start to recognize the direct correlation between a business’ bottom line and strong employee engagement. Many companies, unfortunately, don’t have the budget to develop a long-term engagement plan that includes perks such as napping pods, in-house gyms or catered luncheons every Friday. There are strategies brands can take, however, that won’t break the budget, such as team member bios on the company website, giving out achievement plaques for “big wins,” and gift cards (even a small amount goes a long way).

At Anago, we love to host monthly “dessert” luncheons to celebrate all employee birthdays for that month. We also host recognition meetings where we applaud both individual and company wins so that our staff sees the value in their hard work – that it’s actually helping achieve our sales goals and drive revenue.
