Polish the Doorknob! (And other holiday cleaning tips)

The holiday season is upon us and that means friends and family arriving at your home.  But are you ready for the onslaught? Luckily Anago Cleaning Systems is here for you.  Whether you are hosting Thanksgiving dinner, a holiday party, or having the family open gifts around the tree, you’ll want your home to be ready and welcoming for all your visitors

Here is a good checklist of things to do in the days (or weeks) leading up to your visitors:

  • Walk through your house as a visitor – look for imperfections – dust on the ceiling fan, pet hair in the vents, etc.
  • Be Santa – make a list and check it twice – to be sure you remember all the tasks you’ll need to complete.
  • Check the status of your dish towels, potholders, tablecloths, aprons and such. Be sure to clean the supply to have them ready, even though nobody finds your Rudolph apron cute or funny.
  • Clean out the refrigerator to make extra room and take inventory. And Messy Marvin, clean up the shelves, wipe those old salad dressing bottles and check your expiration dates. Holiday trips to the ER are awful.
  • Speaking of the ‘fridge, clean the front of it of all those old coupons, receipts and last year’s Christmas cards. Having a neat and orderly surface goes a long way to making the kitchen look cleaner.
  • Clean your countertops and appliances. You don’t want to leave a “crum-my” impression of your kitchen by not cleaning out the toaster oven, do you?
  • Wash your windows and damp mop the baseboards – everyone ALWAYS forgets the baseboards.
  • Straighten the bedrooms and hide the clutter. Your friend Emily is always wandering around the house, so pick up the dirty laundry already.
  • Clean up the coat closet so Uncle Artie has one less thing to complain about after he hangs up his coat.
  • Wash the throw rugs. Literally, throw the rugs in the washer or beat them against a tree – whatever you have to do. You don’t want your toddler nephew eating an old raisin or something nasty, right? The family will talk for years about Raisin-gate!
  • Clean the toilets (we know, we’re Captain Obvious here, but you can’t forget THAT! )
  • Clean out the medicine cabinet, since nosy Aunt Edna always snoops
  • Dust everything, including picture frames. When grandma drinks wine she gets emotional and looks at all the pictures.  Keep her from sneezing by paying attention to the frames.
  • Fluff the sofa cushions and your wife’s 32 throw pillows. You should do this all the time – it’s a terrific stress reduction technique.
  • Take care of the outside too – sweep the walkway and wipe the fingerprints off the front door. And don’t forget to polish the doorknob – germs are gross.

You can make this a holiday to remember for the whole family and/or have the best Friendsgiving ever.  Take a few days and do a few things each day so that you don’t unnecessarily stress yourself out.

And have a very happy holiday season. Enjoy the company of loved ones, relax, and get ready for 2020, a year so nice you have to say it twice.
